Another Day at the Helltel...

Psst, People. It's 446am and do you know where I am? LOL. I am here blogging again. But, I had to blog about my crazy day at work. I guess I should have known it was gonna be a strange one because I overslept. I never oversleep. I usually get up no later than 1230pm. I usually hear the mailman delivering the mail between 1030am and 1230pm. Well, I when I did hear the mailman, I woke up out of my sleep. Then, I heard the knock at the door. So, of course I rolled out of bed and answered the door. Didn't put my glasses on. She told me I had a certified letter from the Hilton. I signed for it and came in and opened it. They, for some odd reason, sent my last pay stub by certified mail. LOL. I looked at the clock and shit my pants practically. It was 203pm. I called work and told them I would be there about 15 mins late. Well, when I walked in the door at work, I saw Kerri walking an elderly lady into the lobby and telling her everything would be okay. I went and punched in. The first call of the day for me was from our porter's mother that said her son had an emergency and wouldn't be in tonight. Then I heard the story behind the escorting. The lady must have gotten confused and was found in another room 2 doors down from her actual room. The guests in the wrong room walked in on her. She was sitting there eating some fruit loops, a banana, and drinking Rum right from the half gallon bottle. She was even popping their vitamins. She even plugged in the iron and left it on. We couldn't find the actual people she was supposed to be with. To be safe, we locked the guests out of the room, so they would come to the desk so we could explain what had happened while they were away. We had a late checkout at 3pm. Well, I asked around 330 if they had checked out. I had the maintenance man go up and check the room to see if they had left. He radioed back and told me that they were gone. So we thought all was well. Then the family of the lost lady came in and Kerri explained to them the story. That's when they told us that she had brain cancer. They said she shouldn't have been left alone, but they thought it was okay to leave her for 90 mins while they went and did their TIMESHARE tour. I was thinking to myself, 90 mins is a long time to leave a lady that was in her condition, but I didn't speak that aloud. So all was fine. Well, after they walked away from the desk, it wasn't 5 mins later when a lady come up to the desk to make a complaint. I was checking in another couple when the lady told Patrick that she wanted to know why the maintenance man was drunk and was trying to escort them up to the room. Granted we have smelled alcohol on him before, he did a decent job around the hotel. The guest said he wreaked of alcohol. By this time, Kerri and my GM were on a conference call. So, we couldn't interrupt that. We apologized the best we could and she went on her way. The maintenance man stopped by the desk, and I could smell the alcohol on him from 5ft away. Patrick even got a whiff of it too. I filled out an incident report of what happened with her and what was said. Well, around 430 I went downstairs to smoke a cigarette. I sure didn't expect to walk back into hell again. But, low and behold, I did. Patrick told me he just saw the window of a car in the parking lot just explode. Their was no one around it and just busted and crashed to the ground. I just shook my head and laughed. So, we made the calls up to the room and their number on file only to get voicemail for both. I left a VM in the room for them to call the front desk ASAP. Well, about 515pm, they called down and I explained what had happened and ask them to come down to the desk. They were a nice African American couple that just couldn't believe what had happened. It was a rental car. I went ahead and called the police so they could have a report filled out for the rental agency. While waiting on the police to show, I answered a call for someone asking to speak to the GM. I realized that it was the guest that was complaining about the drunk maintenance man. I transferred the call to him. Then the police showed up about 15mins later to start working with the couple's incident report. Well, as my GM was leaving, he told me didn't want the maintenance man going into any occupied guest rooms for the rest of the evening. I knew I would be the Do It All Bitch for the rest of the night. Which I actually don't mind doing, since it breaks the monotonous on the front desk. I had a few housekeeping and maintenance calls when my GM called and told me he wanted me to send the drunk home and to call and speak with him tomorrow. Well, I tried radioing him for 10 mins while looking all over the hotel for him to let him know. I just couldn't find him nor would he answer back on the radio. Then all of the sudden he appeared in the back office and before I could inform him of the outcome, he said he was fed up and going home for the night. Then, I informed him of what my GM had requested. So he went on his way. Then, I kindly helped the couple with the busted window by grabbing a wetvac and vacuumed their car out and got all the broken glass out of the door frame and such. There was glass all over the inside and outside of the car. The police determined it was just an act of nature. I have heard of windows popping when the weather changes from hot to cool in a matter of minutes. We had a nice quick cold rain shower come through around 4pm and of course the window popped around 430. I gave them directions to the rental agency so they could get a replacement car. And wouldn't you know it, all of the above happened from 245pm - 7pm. What a crazy evening it was. LOL. Okay had to share it with y'all. Hope you got a laugh out of it all, cause I know I sure did. Now, its 523am and I am taking my happy ass to bed. Peace out!
